THE MOONRAKER COMMUNITY When you think of Cub Scout Day Camp you may think of dropping your child off at 8am and picking him up at 4pm. All our great Spirit Of Adventure Day Camps offer programs such as BBs, Archery, Sports, Nature. These programs are staples that make our summer day camps a place to build memories. There is, however, one Spirit Of Adventure Day camp that offers these exciting programs in the evening hours. MoonRaker Twilight Camp has been in existence for nine years. It was founded in 2008 by Bob Gorman, a former career BSA professional who was looking for a camping program that would allow for more parents to share the experience with their children. MoonRaker is a family and community experience. It is located at the Topsfield Fairground, in Topsfield MA. This great location allows an easy commute for almost everywhere in the council. Some of the highlights of Twilight Camp include your standard program of shooting sports, nature, STEM, and athletics with the Scouts in dens (according to their age level) during the first half of the evening, and then once the sun starts to set, there is a special, theme-related program for the entire camp. One highlight of the week is an evening at Coco Key Water Resort (located at the nearby DoubleTree Hilton, just down the road from the fairground). Friday is family day ending with a great Bar-B-Q for everyone. MoonRaker has the good fortune of having a great staff that has been together for a number of years. It is a growing community of volunteers. The core staff and administration have been with the program since the beginning. Over the years the team has been expanded as many parents and any of our den escorts returned as part of MoonRaker’s program staff. Many of the staff has countless years of experience in both Cub and Boy Scouting. Their spirit is infectious and their dedication to providing a quality summer adventure is remarkable. Camp Director Andrew Krause reflects on his favorite memory. “My favorite memory of MoonRaker is the last day when I get to see all the kids as they depart telling me how much fun they had and that they don’t want it to end. That what makes me realize all the work that goes into creating MoonRaker was worth it.” This year MoonRaker runs from July 11-15, 2016 at the Topsfield Fairground from 3:30-8:30pm.
