CHP to Provide Temporary Relief to Towing Companies Experiencing Delayed Motor Carrier Permit Renewals

Towing companies who have had their Motor Carrier Permits (MCP) expire due to recent processing delays at the DMV will be getting temporary relief from enforcement by the CHP. After Members advised CTTA of these DMV delays, CTTA worked with the DMV to clarify the problem and develop solutions to expedite the process. Concurrently, CTTA also worked with the CHP to ensure that towing companies were not being unfairly penalized for these DMV delays. Both agencies were responsive and helpful to CTTA’s requests.

Specifically, in addition to fixing the technical problems that caused the delay, the DMV will be reprioritizing MCP applications to focus on impending expiration dates rather than the date received, as well as assigning DMV personnel to work overtime to catch up with the backlog.

On March 1, the CHP issued a notice to all of its officers to withhold enforcement against motor carriers experiencing MCP renewal delays for a period of 15 days. If the DMV is unable to resolve the issue within this time period, an extension may be issued.

Please let CTTA know if you are still experiencing problems- we will continue to keep you updated with any further developments.
