Sujan Ravi , MD Dr . Ravi is an assistant professor in the Department of Medicine , specializing in gastroenterology and hepatology . He received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Siddhartha Medical College in India in 2007 . He completed his Master of Public Health at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst in 2010 , an internal medicine residency at Wayne State University / Detroit Medical Center in Michigan in 2013 , and a fellowship in gastroenterology / hepatology and transplant hepatology at UAB in 2021 . Dr . Ravi ’ s clinical interests include cirrhosis and complications of cirrhosis , autoimmune hepatitis , primary biliary cholangitis ( PBC ), and primary sclerosing cholangitis ( PSC ), as well as alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease .
Bassam Shukrallah , MD Dr . Shukrallah is an assistant professor of surgery in the UAB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery . He completed his residency at the University of South Alabama Department of Surgery and advanced fellowship training in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Minnesota Medical Center in Minneapolis , Minn . Before joining UAB Medicine , Dr . Shukrallah served as a cardiothoracic surgeon at the Minneapolis Heart Institute and as an assistant professor and surgical director of the ECMO program at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center .
Dr . Shukrallah earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Houston and his MD from St . Matthews University School of Medicine in the Cayman Islands , British West Indies . He served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center . He received additional training in organ care for heart and lung preservation , as well as cardiovascular devices for patient care .
Marcos Pozo Jatem , MD Dr . Pozo Jatem is an assistant professor and medical director of Pediatric Transplant in the UAB Division of Transplantation . He attended Universidad de los Andes Medical School in Bogotá , Colombia , where he received his MD at the top of his class in 2012 . He completed his general surgery residency in 2019 at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore , Md ., and an adult abdominal transplant surgery fellowship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago . His interest in treating pediatric patients led to additional training at Ann & Robert H . Lurie Children ’ s Hospital of Chicago , where he completed a pediatric transplant and advanced hepatobiliary surgery fellowship in 2022 . His areas of interest include adult and pediatric liver / kidney transplantation , living donor liver transplantation , adult and pediatric hepatobiliary surgery , and transplant oncology .
Navya Eleti , MD Dr . Eleti is an assistant professor in the UAB Medicine Division of Transplant Nephrology . She earned her medical degree in 2009 from Gandhi Medical College in Secunderabad , India , and she completed a residency in internal medicine with Baton Rouge General Medical Center in Louisiana in 2019 . At UAB , she completed fellowships in both nephrology and transplant nephrology between 2019 and 2022 , serving as chief fellow during the former for the 2020-2021 term . In addition to caring for patients , teaching medical students , and lecturing , Dr . Eleti focuses on quality improvement projects , including documentation for continuous renal replacement therapy ( CRRT ).
