Substation Switching Procedures
Through the use of One Line Diagrams students will learn the
development of switching procedures to bypass and isolate
substation equipment such as voltage regulators, reclosers, and
circuit breakers. In the substation yard students will then practice the
switching procedure they have developed. Substation is de-energized.

Metal Clad Switchgear
Students will learn how to open, close, insert and withdraw 5 kV
circuit breakers from cubicles in metal clad switchgear. PPE
requirements will be discussed. The function and location of various
switchgear instrumentation and breaker controls such as potential
and current transformers, control switches such as breaker trip and
close, non-reclose, ammeter, voltmeter, and more will be discussed.
Students will learn how to identify and reset fault indication on
electromechanical and microprocessor protection relays. Switchgear is
de-energized.

LICENSE TESTING
NWTC provides A and B class testing.
In addition to a full skills test we provide the following:
Full skills Test (Vehicle Inspection,
Basic Control Skills and Road Tests) = $150
Vehicle Inspection only = $50
Basic Control Skills only = $50
Road Test only = $50
NWTC is a testing site open to individuals and
companies interested in taking their CDL Skills
Tests. Individuals can bring a qualified vehicle
for testing and pay the testing fee of $150 or if
NWTC provides a vehicle you must complete our
CDL Prep Class prior to testing. There is a fee
for the prep class in addition to the testing fee.
Abbreviated school bus skills test = $50
Lift Airbrake restriction
(vehicle inspection required) = $50
