Faculty in the News
CORDIA SIMPSON, Associate Professor of Nursing, was awarded her Post-Master’s
Nursing Certificate in Nursing Education from Walden University.
KRISTIE FULLER, Phlebotomy Program Manager & Assistant Professor eLearning
Instructor Human Service AS Program, finished her second master’s degree. This
degree is from Wake Forest University’s CACREP accredited clinical mental health
counseling program. She graduated with honors and has already taken and passed the
state’s licensure exam. Kristie is now beginning to work towards accruing the required
2 years of post-grad experience that will lead to her being fully licensed as a LMHC
(licensed mental health counselor). Currently, Fuller is a volunteer counselor at Eye of
a Horse, located at Forever Florida, a 4700-acre wildlife preserve in Saint Cloud, where
psychotherapy, nature exposure, and animal-assisted growth and learning experiences
are offered to various populations including individuals, couples, military veterans and
families, persons with autism spectrum disorders, athletes, law enforcement trainees,
student therapists, and corporations/organizations.
Three EFSC faculty members were elected to the Executive Board of Florida World
Languages in Colleges and Universities (FWLCU) at the 50th annual Florida Foreign
Language Association (FFLA) State-Wide Conference held in Kissimmee.
AARON HOUTS from the Palm Bay campus was elected to a second term as President.
DR. NICOLE GOMEZ from the Cocoa Campus was elected Vice President and PILAR
FLORENZ from the Melbourne Campus was elected Secretary.
MICHELLE RICHARD, Instructor of Office Technology, has completed the Five Star
Advisor Plan, an online curriculum designed to help advisors for Phi Theta Kappa
increase their effectiveness in leadership and to build strong PTK chapters. PTK is the
national honor society for community college students and Michelle is the PTK advisor
on EFSC’s Titusville Campus. Her achievement will be recognized at the honor society’s
annual convention to be held in Orlando in April.
CHERYL RENEE, English Professor on the Melbourne Campus, has earned a Ph.D. in
General Psychology from Grand Canyon University with an emphasis on Cognition
and Instruction in Higher Education. As a life-long learner, Dr. Renee is using her new
degree to promote student learning.
