SUICIDE REPORT PROVES PUZZLE
“The most baffling death case in the history of this desert community developed last night when the body of A.B. McCloud, 60
years of age, well known here as a mining man for fifteen years, was found by his widow in the front yard of his home. He had
been shot three times through the head.
Constable E.J. Elder said he was called to the house shortly after 11 p.m. and Deputy Sheriff Al Welch also rushed to the scene.
After a brief investigation they summoned Coroner Houze and a representative of the District Attorney’s office from Bakersfield.
Mrs. McCloud told the officers that she found the body in the yard and carried it to the house. She said a .38-caliber revolver lay
beside the body and that he had committed suicide. His widow said she was asleep and did not hear any shots, but other persons
