Flying as high as 15,000 feet, these amazing raptors will
travel as far as 150 miles a day in search of food. Since
their sense of smell is not very acute they rely on their
extremely keen sight, as evidenced by this bird's
watchful focus on the author of this account.
The Chumash, Yokuts and Western Mono, native tribes
of California, believed that the condor could transfer
special eyesight powers to humans through their
feathers, enabling shamans to locate lost items and
missing persons.
