Editor-in-Chief Cindy Ackley Nunn's family line has a long history of oystermen and whalers, starting at their arrival in the American Colonies of New Jersey and New York in the 1600's. These two New Jersey oyster boats (above) belonged to her maternal grandfather, Nelson Reed. This photo was taken in 1927 at Millville, New Jersey, on the banks of the Maurice River. The photo below is of Cindy Ackley Nunn's maternal grandparents, Viola Smith and Nelson Reed, on their wedding day at Millville, NJ, 4 January 1927. Viola was only 15 years old and Nelson was 24. The fact that they had this photo taken near Nelson's oyster boats speaks a lot for his pride in them. Cindy and her siblings are all allergic to shellfish! 53
