Mary Carol Story – Kentucky “Soon after, I returned home to my family, with a determination to bring them as soon as possible to live in Kentucky, which I esteemed a second paradise, at the risk of my life and fortune.” ~ Daniel Boone Mary Carol is a self-taught photographer who grew up in Northern Kentucky. She has always had an affinity with, and an appreciation of, nature. Her love of nature, travel and the outdoors continues to influence her life and her unique art. Being fortunate enough to take an early retirement, Mary Carol Story now has the opportunity to devote herself full time to her photography. She continuously looks for new ways to create uniquely intense photographs, whether it is the intense character in the eyes of a native Cardinal, the bold color of the feathers that are perfectly layered to create his wings or her use of selective color to create visual impact. She has the personal passion to capture that natural intensity in her photography within each and every shot. Her bold, vibrant, colors lend themselves to a variety of subject matter, making her photographs appeal to a wide audience. Eagle Falls is located in Cumberland Falls State Resort Park in McCreary County, Kentucky, United States. Water from Eagle Creek descends 44 feet (13 m) before landing on the rocks below on the Cumberland River shoreline. Eagle Falls can be accessed by hiking Trail 9 located on Kentucky Route 90 in the Cumberland Falls State Park. The trail to Eagle Falls is 1.5 miles (2.4 km) and has very beautiful scenery along the way including the best views of Cumberland Falls. Quick Notes: McCreary County, Kentucky was formed in 1912 from carved out portions of two other counties, Wayne and Whitley. Eagle Falls were originally located in Whitley County, which was created in 1818 from sections of Knox County. Many skirmishes were fought in this area between the native Indian tribes and hunters and trappers. Over in North Corbin, just north of Whitley County, you will find the Sanders Cafe, home to the now famous Kentucky Fried Chicken. Harland David Sanders, aka Colonel Sanders, founded KFC here in 1930. McCreary County does not have any incorporated townships or cities. The Cumberland Falls State Resort Park is located entirely within the Daniel Boone National Forest. On nights of a full moon the Cumberland Falls is one of the few places in the Western hemisphere where you can witness a moonbow. 65
