Louise Reeves – New Jersey
“New Jersey is the most poetic state: close enough to New York to be urban and cosmopolitan,
far enough to be desirous and unsure; densely populated, but full of farms and woods, with
the most deer of any state.” ~ Robert Pinsky
Born and raised in New Jersey, my photography highlights the history of this little
state, even as that history rapidly disappears. From old diners to historic architecture
to incredible vistas, New Jersey is a cornucopia of history, scenic landscapes, small
town living and big city life. In addition to historic places, landscapes and diners, my
photography also includes classic autos and motorcycles.
My photography has been featured three times on Ovation TV as promotional commercials for the channel., most recently as the
winner of their Art is Everywhere Initiative commercial.
In addition to photography,I am a freelance graphic designer, photo retoucher and restorer and a motorcycle journalist for Cycle
Connections online magazine.

Here is my piece. It is called Roebling Station.
The now abandoned Roebling railroad station sits on the property of the Roebling Museum in Roebling, NJ.
Quick Notes:
The Roebling Railroad Station was built in 1907 and was operated by the Pennsylvania Railroad.
In November 1915 fire roared through Knickerbocker Row, located opposite the Roebling Station. Eight combined businesses and
dwellings were destroyed and 125 people were left homeless. Reinforcements from the fire departments of Burlington, Florence
and Bordentown arrived just in time to save the station from catching fire and burning down as well.
There is an interesting online book available for free called History of the Village of Roebling, where, on page 88, you can see a 1910
photo of the old station located at its original location. The rest of the book is also a delightful wander through the historic old
photos of the rest of the village. http://www.florence-nj.gov/history/HISTORY-VILLAGE-OF-ROEBLING.pdf
The village of Roebling was a true company town. The original houses, all 750, were built by Charles Roebling, who conceived and
designed the village as a “model town.” Almost all of the houses were built of red brick with slate roofs, and they would
accommodate approximately 3500 employees.
Company houses in the village of Roebling were much more luxurious compared to most other homes during the early 1900's, as
each home was equipped with indoor plumbing, gas and electric.
