Luckily , there comes that natural ‘ time to-be-a-grown-up- ( but only sometimes )’ transition that we all awkwardly stumble through , where Christmas is no longer marked by receiving and becomes rather more about the selfless act of giving . Think about that old expression , the best things in life are free ... it ’ s clichéd I know , but that ’ s only because it ’ s true . And now as you go to sit down around the table with your nearest and dearest , it finally dawns on you that moments like these are the ones to be cherished , because in a world like ours , you just don ’ t know how many more you ’ re going to be lucky enough to get . It ’ s precious moments like these that make every Christmas truly special , and it ’ s moments like these that will never leave us .
First love , sweet sixteens , being able to drink ( legally ), finally getting your driving license , graduating from uni , moving out , getting married , and having kids are all well and good , but I think that there are more significant milestones that we are blessed enough to experience ; we just don ’ t often realise it at the time . I believe that adulthood is truly marked by the moment when you finally care about someone else in this world more than you care about yourself . The realisation that in the grand scheme of things , you are a very tiny piece in an incomprehensible puzzle ; and that every human life is equal , regardless of what tries to divide us . It hadn ’ t properly registered on my mind until now that there are kids living alongside me here in the UK who may never have experienced the magic of Christmas ... the distinctively fresh smell of a pine tree , the special warmth that brews inside a well-loved home , and the priceless gift of someone making your wish come true . I don ’ t know about you , but in my books , anyone being deprived of that is just NOT okay . Every child should have the opportunity , to be just that . Every child has the right to innocently make a wish with the hope that it might just come true . Every child should believe that the world is full of magic . Because it is . And wishes do come true every day .
With a little help from Bruce & co , this one promises not to be your usual Christmas . So this year , be sure to make your wish . And believe in it , with all your heart .
Now wait ... And just watch it come true .
