MORE THAN A LIBRARY This project is fully funded and developed by MRCB and is the first of 3 libraries that the company is donating to 3 communities in the Klang Valley at a total cost of RM30 million. It is now open to more than 20,000 residents living in the vicinity of this community facility. Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad’s (MRCB) Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) driven project 1Wilayah Persekutuan Library in Lembah Pantai is a development of this 17,000 square feet twostorey library on a 30,000 square feet piece of land near the PPR was with the cooperation of the Federal Territories Ministry under an MRCB corporate social responsibility programme. It was aimed for the 1Wilayah Persekutuan Library to be a place for knowledge, research and interaction (including business interaction) and to encourage or impart knowledge for community volunteerism activities. The project was mooted by the former Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Minister, YM Datuk Seri Utama Raja Nong Chik Bin Dato’ Raja Zainal Abidin, as an initiative to upgrade public facilities in the city as well as to assist the lower-income group by showcasing the importance of education. This CSR effort is considered as part of MRCB’s urban regeneration and sustainability development philosophy. In his speech at the launching ceremony YBhg Dato’ Haji Ishak Bin Haji Mohamed, MRCB’s Executive Vice President said, “Focus on the redevelopment of urban areas, or Urban Regeneration, is not something new to MRCB. In fact, the process to continue to strengthen growth in urban areas is our philosophy at MRCB.” “We constantly look at any opportunity to develop areas around the Klang Valley and Kuala Lumpur in particular, which require rejuvenation and a new lease in life as centre of growth for the benefit of all levels of society”.
