will minimise carbs from my diet, or replace complex carbs with
something more whole-grain like oatmeal rather than bread.
CSM: Do you think customized meal plans are really neces-
sary? Why is that?
ADELA: I think it depends on the individual. People who are
sensitive to certain food groups may really benefit from the test-
ing process that aids customised meal plans or maybe people
who are still learning about healthy eating. For me, I don’t think
they’re really a necessity and it’s more important to control the
portion.
CSM: Any fitness goals for yourself? What are you aiming
now?
ADELA: I’m trying to get stronger, and leaner. In the past I’ve
definitely been one of those cardio-bunny girls who were afraid
of weights but I’m trying to explore resistance training now.
CSM: There are a lot of online coaches and lifestyle advisers
out in the market already, what are the factors that people should
take into consideration when hiring a personal trainer or online
coaches or maybe investing some time and money to them?
ADELA: I actually worked with a trainer for a while before
leaving for the competition and I found the factors I needed to
consider were, do I feel comfortable with this person? Do I feel
like they are gonna show me things I couldn’t push myself to
do on my own? Will I let this person coach me? For me it was
worth the investment because I was really pushed into doing
workouts I wouldn’t normally make myself do.
CSM: As a fitness and health enthusiast, what are the essential
exercises you have to do? Why is that?
ADELA: I really enjoy running, I don’t think I am the best at it
but aside from the obvious benefit of keeping my weight down
I like to run to clear my mind, especially when I am stressed
about something I find that running helps to calm me down. The
same goes with swimming. I don’t actually swim as much as I
used to anymore as I used to swim competitively back in the UK.
I try to work on my mid- section a lot too but there are probably
other body parts I should pay more attention to.
CSM: Do you have any gym etiquette advice for other peo-
ple?
ADELA: Please do not lift weights too heavy for you and
then drop them on the floor just to show off. The amount of
times I’ve almost had a heart attack because some guy want-
ed to show off and then dropped the weights with a loud thud
is incredible.
CSM: Fact or myth? Does living a healthy lifestyle keeps
you happy and young? Why is that?
ADELA: Whenever I see this question I think of that line
Reese Witherspoon says as Elle Woods in Legally Blonde,
“exercise releases endorphins, endorphins make you happy,
and happy people just don’t kill their husbands…they just
don’t.” So if that’s anything to go by, yes I would say a healthy
lifestyle does keep you happy!
CSM: If you are our health ambassador and a lifestyle advo-
cate, how would you help promote healthy living in school or
in corporate world?
ADELA: I think I can only lead by example; I’d like to
promote the importance of healthy living in regards to my
attitude towards it. By noting its importance in our lives but
not prioritising it or making it the centre of our lives. Food
and exercise can be fun but it shouldn’t rule our lives.
CSM: A lot of your followers are curious to know these, if
there’s any food and beverage that you cannot resist what
would that be and why?
ADELA: I have such a sweet-tooth so there are a lot of things
I can’t resist and to be quite honest I don’t resist them I almost
always give in and that’s okay just so long as I don’t go too
crazy.
CSM: Any advice to individuals who wants to gain weight
and lean muscle? Advise to people who want to lose weight
and be sexy?
ADELA: Hmm I don’t know much about these matters. I
would recommend talking to a nutritionist to find out what is
best for your body type. I think in regards to losing weight,
it’s nothing we don’t already know, control your portions and
make healthy choices as well as exercise regularly.
