CSM Game-Changer Issue with Cristiano Ronaldo 2019 GAME-CHANGER ISSUE - Heather Blackburn | Page 328
CSM: How do you keep yourself educated or updat-
ed for latest trends and information in healthy living
or lifestyle?
ROXANNE: Staying educated on a never-ending
shifting topic is important. There are always new
“products” being offered and types of diets that claim
to work. Being connected online to other like-mind-
ed individuals and able to discuss trends is helpful.
Above all a lot of reading and listening to clients.
CSM: How important is food and nutrition to you as
a model, athlete or as an individual?
ROXANNE: Nutrition is number one to me. If I do
not feed my body properly it will not perform how I
need it to. If I look good but eat crap it will reflect in-
side and out. I see the term “Healthy” as being from
the inside and then shining outwards.
I have also faced Cancer and had multiple scares so it
is important to listen to my body and ruly know when
something is off.
CSM: Describe the essential skills to be effective in
maintaining your figure or shape.
ROXANNE: There has to be a sense of discipline
and self-awareness. Accountability for myself can-
not be put on anyone else as it is my body. I am a
planner when it comes to my schedule and nutrition
day to day. I allocate the time needed for workouts
and making sure my nutrition is in line along with
both of my jobs and family.
CSM: What are your ideas about non-organic food
versus organic?
ROXANNE: If the quality of food is important to
you do research on what chemicals are used on your
everyday foods and how can you eliminate unneeded
chemicals from being ingested. Over time I believe
they can cause harm on individuals in different ways
and some may never see the side effects. By making
a change in my home I am helping my children keep
the change for themselves and their futures.
CSM: What are your views on an all-meat diet versus
a vegan diet?
ROXANNE: Individuals may choose to be vegan or
maybe it’s a health driven choice, either way it will
not stop health and fitness goals from being reached.
Supplements can be taken to fill any nutrients that are
not being filled through food intake.
CSM: What groups of food do you usually eat?
ROXANNE: Seasonal fruits and vegetables are a
large portion of my nutrition in volume. I use lean
meats for protein mostly in beef and chicken. Raw
nuts like cashews and almonds are my preferred
choice of filling fat macros.
CSM: Do you think customized meal plans are really
necessary? Why is that?
ROXANNE: Every person is different in their level
of knowledge with nutrition and some need more
guidance. If a client feels overwhelmed with macros
and tracking their intake to hit their goals then some-
times I will create a meal plan to get them started and
then teach the client over time how to track while
they are working on their goals and seeing changes
to help motivate them.
CSM: Any fitness goals for yourself? What are you
aiming now?
ROXANNE: I always have a goal to work towards,
its motivating. I am currently booked for multiple
photoshoots this year, one is with my husband. In the
gym I am working on lower body strength as well as
flexibility. Running has never been something that
excites me but I continue to push myself to do bet-
ter.
CSM: There are a lot of online coaches and lifestyle
advisers out in the market already, what are the fac-
tors that people should take into consideration when
hiring a personal trainer or online coaches or maybe
investing some time and money to them?
ROXANNE: Social media is flooded with people
that are ready to help others reach their health and fit-
ness goals. Finding the right one should include re-
search and even conversations on the phone. Ask for
client testimonials and photos if they are not posted
on social media. Hiring a coach should be personal
and is an investment. Ask friends and family if they
have a coach that they can refer you to if they also
have had positive experiences.
CSM: As a fitness and health enthusiast, what are the
essential exercises you have to do? Why is that?
ROXANNE: As a trainer if I cannot perform basic
movements such as push-ups, squats, deadlifts, lung-
es, pull ups, etc., then how can I show clients how to
do them or have confidence in me.
CSM: Do you have any gym etiquette advice for oth-
er people?
ROXANNE: “Stay in your lane Bro!” The gym is a
place for people to get focused and push themselves
so if it appears that they don’t want to be disturbed
then leave them be.
CSM: Fact or myth? Does working out daily improve
one’s sexual stamina or prowess during sexual activ-
ity? Why do you say so?
ROXANNE: Working out 3-5 times a week and be-
ing heart healthy (cardio vascular health) improves
stamina and overall confidence.
