CSM: How do you keep yourself educated or updated for latest trends and information in healthy living or lifestyle? DEBBIE: I once owned a gym and employed sev- eral trainers. I learned something from each one of them. Even though I sold my gym, I still stay cur- rent through my own personal coach and my friends, most of whom are involved in fitness on some level. I work with posing coaches, nutritionists and even have healthy debates on the latest “trend” diets with those who advocate them. CSM: How important is food and nutrition to you as a model, athlete or as an individual? DEBBIE: Diet and nutrition is the backbone of any fitness program. It is the structure and the matrix through which changes are made. As a model, as a past marathon runner and as an individual who places personal fitness close to the top of her priority list, nu- trition comes first. ton of money. Ask the questions that you have and allow them to answer. Base your decision on their knowledge of what YOU need, not what everyone says the masses need. CSM: As a fitness and health enthusiast, what are the essential exercises you have to do? Why is that? DEBBIE: Cardio and stretching. So many people think cardio is just for weight loss. Cardio obviously is used for weight loss, but cardio is also essential to lifting weights and ensuring your cardiovascular health is on point to support the exercises you need to do to achieve the body you want. Stretching is also critical to avoid injuries and keep your muscles pliable, giv- ing you a more attractive overall physique. CSM: Do you have any gym etiquette advice for other people? DEBBIE: Wear deodorant. Put your weights back. Wipe the equipment down. CSM: What are your ideas about non-organic food versus organic? DEBBIE: As someone who puts a lot of emphasis on nutrition, organic is always my preference when I have options. CSM: Fact or myth? Does working out daily improve one’s sexual stamina or prowess during sexual activ- ity? Why do you say so? DEBBIE: YES. ABSOLUTELY. Working out daily does a lot of things, some of it psychological. You feel sexier when you work out and you have more confi- dence. Those things tend to be pretty significant in the bedroom. Exercise also increases your stamina through cardiovascular development and helps you perform at your best. It also reduces stress, which is an absolute libido killer. CSM: What are your views on an all-meat diet versus a vegan diet? DEBBIE: I believe in balance and cannot see me ever removing all meats or all vegetables/fruits. Our bod- ies need vitamins and nutrients from several types of foods and while you can substitute across those lines, that will never be my preference. CSM: Fact or myth? Does living a healthy lifestyle keeps you happy and young? Why is that? DEBBIE: Living a healthy lifestyle certainly helps keep stress levels low, allowing for better mental clar- ity than if exercise was not part of my life. I tend to be happier overall, even during more difficult times, when I follow my exercise regimen. CSM: What groups of food do you usually eat? DEBBIE: All of them. Literally. Beef, poultry, fish, vegetables, fruits, grains, nuts. CSM: If you are our health ambassador and a lifestyle advocate, how would you help promote healthy living in school or in corporate world? DEBBIE: I would emphasize the importance of ex- ercise daily and teach individuals to make the mental connection between physical fitness and mental well- being. Often we are not taught to connect the dots – this is critical. In the corporate world, I am a huge advocate of offering flexible hours to allow people to attend their morning yoga class, or to hit the gym at lunch, or whatever time works best. I believe in physical fitness and the connection between that and a productive employee, and ultimately a more produc- tive person. CSM: Describe the essential skills to be effective in maintaining your figure or shape. DEBBIE: Grit. Determination. Perseverance. With- out those, you will quit and if you quit, you fail. No one wants that! CSM: Do you think customized meal plans are really necessary? Why is that? DEBBIE: Not necessarily. For me, yes. Let me ex- plain. Many individuals enjoy more variety and fol- low a macronutrient program that allows for selection when meal time rolls around. For me, my life tends to run at mach 10. I need a customized meal plan to al- lows me to organize my food and meals timely so that I an prepared always. I am never without my meals. CSM: Any fitness goals for yourself? What are you aiming now? DEBBIE: I always have fitness goals! I am currently looking at a photoshoot in July, a competition in Au- gust and a photoshoot in November! CSM: There are a lot of online coaches and lifestyle advisers out in the market already, what are the factors that people should take into consideration when hiring a personal trainer or online coaches or maybe invest- ing some time and money to them? DEBBIE: Timely responses to clients, their overall knowledge of nutrient timing and hormones, and their appearance. Seriously, hire a personal trainer who looks like one. Then talk to them before investing a CSM: A lot of your followers are curious to know these, if there’s any food and beverage that you cannot resist what would that be and why? DEBBIE: Oh, the looks I will get for this. Takis, a spicy corn tortilla chip, coated with hot chili pepper and lime and Baby Ruth candy bars. CSM: Any advice to individuals who wants to gain weight and lean muscle? Advise to people who want to lose weight and be sexy? DEBBIE: Yes, actually. If you need assistance to achieve the goals you’ve set for yourself, find a per- sonal trainer who can help. Develop a program around nutrition and exercise and most of all, never quit.
