2014 CLUB CHAMPIONS
MAKING HISTORY
A
S YOU SCAN the pages of this year’s Championship Annual, a prominent theme should come to light winning any golf tournament is an incredible feat. It requires a remarkable amount of skill, determination
and guts. To achieve victory means that you hit the shots when they mattered most, made the clutch
putts under pressure, and outlasted fellow-competitors who were all vigorously seeking to etch their name on the
trophy.
Take fifteen year-old Gabrielle Martin of Madison, Conn. and Clinton Country Club, pictured above.
After leading her high school golf team to the state championship and tying for second place as a freshman, she was
determined to make her summer a memorable one. Her hard work paid off by winning both the CWGA Junior
Amateur Championship and the Women’s Club Championship at Clinton Country Club. Martin qualified to play
in the 2014 Clinton CC Women’s Club Championship by winning the Junior Championship in 2013, and became
the youngest player in the one hundred-nineteen year history to win the championship. With her brother caddying
for her throughout the tournament, she went on to capture the title, defeating fifteen-time champion Mary Harris
by an eventual score of 4 and 3.
Indeed, winning a competition is an accomplishment achieved by a select few each year, and is a triumph
worthy of the utmost respect. As a tribute to those who work tirelessly on their games to reach the pinnacle of
perfection, the CSGA recognizes the men and women who achieved greatness by capturing their respective Club
Championships in the 2014 season.
