43 RD JULIUS BOROS CHALLENGE CUP New Haven Country Club Hamden, Conn. May 1 T HE CONNECTICUT SECTION PGA, led by Captain Dennis Coscina, captured the 43rd Julius Boros Challenge Cup on Thursday in decisive fashion, winning the Cup for the third straight year by a margin of 39.5 to 23.5. The Connecticut Section PGA team, comprised of PGA Professionals from Connecticut and Western Massachusetts, jumped out to an early 11-10 lead over the CSGA after the front nine and never looked back. After making the turn, the PGA Team CSGA (23.5 Pts) went on to capture all but two of the singles matches on the back nine, helping catapult them to their eventual victory. “I’m so proud of my team for the way they played today”, said PGA Captain Dennis Coscina. “All fourteen guys played with a tremendous amount of pride, and I am so thrilled that we were able to retain the Cup for another year. The Challenge Cup is really a special day and a great opportunity to gather two of the premiere golf organizations in Connecticut for an event rich in tradition Connecticut PGA (39.5 Pts) Fourball Match Play Hermanson-Szewczul Josephson-Day Hunter-Dietz Schaeffer-Thompson Chicorka-Lawrence VanDerLaan-Carlson Perry-Boggini 3 0.5 0 2.5 2 0 2 Dell-Kay Bilodeau-Marrello Barnsley-Mongillo Marshall-Shea Leja-Slattery Kelley-Downes Street-Wallis 0 2.5 3 0.5 1 3 1 Singles Match Play Bill Hermanson Dave Szewczul Kevin Josephson Benjamin Day Ben Hunter Brent Dietz Paul Schaeffer Michael Thompson Branden Chicorka Bret Lawrence John VanDerLaan Brian Carlson Phil Perry Glen Boggini 44 and camaraderie.” The Connecticut Section PGA has an impressive record, having won thirty-one times to the CSGA’s twelve since the inception of the matches.
