Right from the era of CPI and CPM , Com . Madhu started his Revolutionary life as a Student ’ s Union member , activist and in the process evolved as an activist of the twin cities committee of Andhra Pradesh Communist Committee ( Revolutionaries ). After playing a significant role in the preparatory efforts of laying revolutionary foundation during 1969-70 ’ s , Com . Madhu not only involved fully in the party activities of Hyderabad centre , but also maintained relations with the forest movements . Within short period of time party split because of political differences . At the time of UCCRI ( ML ) formation , Comrade Khokan Mazumdar and Kesab Sarkar came to Andhra to meet Com . D . V . Rao and to correspond Com . Kanu Sanyal in Vizag jail . Comrade Madhu met those two Comrades . During the emergency crisis , after the martyrdom of Com . Tarimela Nagireddy , Com . Madhu was one of those comrades who took forward the party line .
Comrade Madhu also had taken up the responsibility of running the party ’ s internal organ ‘ Jwala ’ during the emergency period . Since 1976 onwards , he has been discharging his responsibility in the various unity efforts as a member of the Central Committee of the party as well as the secretary of the Central Committee , till the day of his demise . walls of his pulmonary tissue had got thickened . Only thirty percent of his respiratory capacity was in function . Regular medication and monthly visits to the doctors had become a routine . There also arose a need to keep an oxygen cylinder ready for use . In all , Madhu ’ s health had turned very fragile . Under these conditions since April 8 th he suffered an attack of incessant cough . Doctors said that it is a problem associated with ILD and prescribed drugs . But no role in the publication of party journals in Telugu and English , in the preparation of political reports on theoretical problems and in the preparation of party reviews .
He became the General Secretary of the party for the first time during the Central Conference of the UCCRI ( ML ) in 1989 . That Central Conference Review has paved the way for the organisation at that critical juncture , immediately after the conference talks with Com . SantiRoy and others started , but don ’ t worked out . After that , within a short time the effort for unity within three revolutionary organizations , ND , Resistance and UCCRI ( ML ) began . But the efforts for the unity of the three revolutionary organisations has not become fruitful at that time . The two revolutionary organisations Resistance and UCCRI ( ML ) made efforts for the unity .
The unity efforts started by K . Ramachandran , Madhu , Viswam and Rajanna has transformed into an unity between six Communist Revolutionary Groups and thus finally CPI ( ML ) -Janasakti was formed . But the result of the six years unity efforts has gradually failed and a situation has been created which led to the formation of a COC of Janasakti , with P . K . Murty , Viswam , Madhu , Gananath Patro and Pradeep Benarjee and Somanath Chatarjee . Com . Madhu was elected as the secretary for this COC .
improvement was found . The suffering didn ’ t subside . He was taken to a doctor on the 14 th of April . After a CT scan investigation he was admitted into the Hospital . A lot of infection in the lungs was the cause of the problem . He was put on appropriate medication . Yet , there was no relief . When me and my comrades called on him by phone it was clear that he was going through intense suffering . There was nothing more to be done . Com . Madhu himself seems to have realized it . Subsequently , by 1998-99 , the process of unity discussions with ‘ New Initiative ’ under the leadership of Com . Aravind Sinha and with COI ( ML ) under the leadership of Com . Kanu Sanyal , ultimately led to the formation of ‘ Unity Initiative ’ with ‘ new initiative ’, CPI ( ML ) -Janasakti COC groups . Comrade Madhu was elected as the general secretary of ‘ Unity Initiative ’. In mid 2001 , Com . Viswam had to take up the responsibility of the general secretary .
COI ( ML ) under the leadership of Com . Kanu Sanyal and ‘ unity initiative ’ have formed into a ‘ coordination committee ’ under the convenership of Com . Kanu Sanyal . In this process , the CPI ( U ) ML under the leadership of Com . Subodh Mitra joined the Coordination Committee . The three organisations COI ( ML ), Unity Initiative , and CPI ( U ) ( ML ) have formed into CPI ( ML ) with Com . Kanu Sanyal as its General Secretary . During that period itself , unity discussions with CPI ( ML ) - Red Flag under the leadership of Com . K . N . Ramachandran and Jaya Kumar took place . In 2003 , Red flag was divided and K . N . Ramachandran formed Red Star and became a partner of the Co-ordination Committee .
This Co-ordination Committee , with Com . Kanu Sanyal as its Convener started unity efforts . The
physical suffering , his voice did not sound any signs of anxiety . When we assured him of the best available medical treatment to overcome his illness he answered ‘ okay ’. But , unfortunately the efforts could not succeed . Finally , in the early morning at 4 o ’ clock on the 16 th of April he succumbed and martyred . Com . Madhu will live forever in our memory and revolutionary practice . I express my revolutionary tributes in the memory of Com . Madhu .
