because of such economic adjustments , our big bourgeoisie and big-landlord classes , in the one hand are continuously getting enriched and accumulating enormous wealth all along and on the other hand , their masters , the imperialist powers are earning super profits from their investments in a backward and underdeveloped country like ours . And as an effect , the misery of the majority of our people has become a certain reality . This opposite state of affairs of our big bourgeoisie and the general masses of our country has perfectly reflected in the various social survey reports of the United Nations as well as the World Bank . A detailed study of these survey reports reveals the following facts in short : A ) According to Harun Rich List 2018 , China has the highest number of Billionaires ( 819 persons ), the second-highest number of Billionaires are in America ( 517 persons ) and India has the third-highest number of Billionaire ( 571 persons ). ( One billion = 1000 crores ). B ) In the table of Harun Rich List 2018 , among the 2157 companies in 68 countries in the world , there are a total of 2694 Billionaires , whose total assets having been increased by 31 %, reached to 10.5 trillion dollars ( one trillion = one lakh crores ), which is 13.2 % of the Global GDP . C ) In India , 57 Capitalists are having total assets which are equal to that of the sum of the assets of 70 % Indian people , i . e . about 90 Crores people . D ) According to a survey report of the United Nations Development Programme in India , the number of people belonging to below poverty line in 2005-06 was only 54.7 %. This figure seems to be very much under estimated because according to unauthorized sources , India ’ s BPL population cannot be less than 70 %, which is evident in the poor standard of leaving of the village and urban toiling masses .

Karnataka Farmers Agitation to Write-off Debts

Karnataka Gramin Bank has trapped farmers in huge debts out of their petty loans by charging them with exorbitant fines over and above its killer compound interests . It is trying to auction their farm lands and is refusing to give new loans . Farmers , being made vulnerable and insecure felt insulted and are committing suicides . Under these circumstances , AIKMKS affiliated Karnataka Rajya Rythu Sangha is carrying out agitations to stand with the farmers and fight these unjust practises .
However , government and bank officials were reluctant to act , so the movement was intensified . An indefinite fast was launched on June 27 at the Karnataka Gramin Bank headquarters in Bellary after campaigning in many villages and deciding that each village would participate in the dharna for one day . Farmers from 28 villages carried out dharnas seriously for 28 days . Many more villages showed a eagerness to participate . The participation of farmers from various districts has also increased day by day . In this situation , the revenue administration , police and
enmeshed tightly into the net of finance capital , despite telling a lot about self-reliance and all . Now , the question is , because of this economic over-dependence on imperialist finance capital , has it reached the verge of losing its independence ? It is simply not possible to guess . But certainly , it can be said that it has reached an extreme position in this regard . Because for some time now , we have noticed that , the Government has tilted towards ‘ neo-liberal policies ’, it intended to sell off the ‘ Navratna Industries ’, decided to de-centralizing the Coal Sector , allowed 100 % foreign investment in Defence Sector , adopted an anti-farmer and antipeople Bill with regards to Agricultural production , so as to allow the bank officials requested farmers a month ’ s time to hold talks with their bank board and RBI officials and come up with a conducive solution . Farmers held discussions among themselves and temporarily called-off the indefinite dharna after holding a large meeting of 300 people .
Farmers suffered severe losses to their crops and incurred heavy financial losses and are demanding complete loan waiver or a one-time settlement of 10 percent of the amount . The Karnataka Rajya Rythu Sangha ( KRRS ) has declared that the fight will continue until this demand is accepted . R . Madhava Reddy , President of KRRS , said that they will wait till October as requested by the bank officials and if the issues are not resolved , they will continue their agitations again .
As part of this agitation , thousands of pamphlets were distributed in 100 villages over a month prior to the dharnas . This program was attended by union leaders and hundreds of farmers every day . Lawyers , doctors and various organisations participated one day each in support of this farmer ’ s movement .
indigenous big bourgeoisie as well as imperialist agencies to penetrate into our Agriculture sector . Can it all happen and take place without the dictations of the Imperialist forces ? Does it not indicate the complete subjugation of our Government to the Imperialist powers ? Therefore , it can be firmly said that the political independence of our country is under extreme threat .
Thus , feature-4 for our country being of Semi-Colonial characteristics is also beyond any doubt .
And finally , our country having confirming all the four features of being of a Semi-Colonial characteristic , as mentioned earlier , it can be firmly said that India is a Semi-Colonial country .
