Digital environment Design
Linking to my brainstorm, the digital
environment I decided would be based on a
steampunk style. At first I started gathering
images off the net relating to my ideas to
help me visualise my work and what I
wanted to create. I also have played a video
game called Kingdom Hearts Back Cover
and remembered that the digital
environment in that game is so appealing,
and was definitely something I wanted to
create. I didn’t want to create something
that was too corroded or steamy with lots of
pollution as it would make my target
audience uncomfortable; I wanted to keep
the style of steampunk, but with brighter
colours.

Once I had my research done, I started doing some concept art reflecting back to my resource materials
to help gain a better visual interpretation of my project. I started off creating a large building I named
‘Crystal Palace’ with turrets and pointy roofs. The only error I had in this stage was that I did not add
in any gears hence making it look less like a steampunk style artwork that I had anticipated and more
like a fantasy environment, however I had changed
that during the modelling stages afterwards. After
that I started to concept some artwork of houses with
beams of two different colours, again reflecting off
the game’s resources. The only difference I made to
each houses were the roofs. After completing that, I
started to composite the two concept to give it a
better visual understanding of my digital
environment, although they did not make it to the
final cut. (Fig.11) (Fig. 12)
