Young America returns to Class C

After playing the last two years in Class B , the Young America Cardinals are returning to Class C for the 2024 season .
Young America was moved to Class B following the 2021 season due to success points . After playing up a class for the past two years , the Cardinals will return to Class C for the 2024 season .
The first year of Class B was a tough one for Young America . After playing well in the regular season , the Cardinals had a rough go of things in the postseason . In 2023 , Young America flipped the script as they played some of their best ball at the right time qualifying for the Class A / B state tournament for the first time .
The Cardinals nearly pulled off an upset in the first round of the state tournament falling to defending Class A state champion St . Louis Park 2-1 .

News and notes across the CRVL and state

There ’ s been a ton of action and news surrounding the Crow River Valley League and amateur baseball as a whole since the season wrapped up last September . Herald Journal Sports Editor Kip Kovar takes a look at the top things you might have missed this offseason heading into the 2024 season .
• The St . Boni Saints aren ’ t the lone team in the Crow River Valley League to be adding lights to their field this season . The New Germany Dutchmen are also in the process of doing so in preparation for the 2024 season .
• The amateur state baseball tournament is coming back to the CRVL in 2024 . Green Isle will be one of the hosts for the 2024 state tournament alongside Belle Plaine and Jordan . The CRVL will also be part of the 2025 state tournament when the tournament comes to Brownton along with Hutchinson and Gaylord .
• The 2024 Region 7C Tournament will take place at Fritz Field in Cologne . The Hollanders have been busy making updates and upgrades to their field ahead of hosting one of the most exciting stretches of amateur baseball .

• Glencoe ’ s Dave Sell received some recognition for his coaching at the high school level . Sell was named Assistant Coach of The Year by the Minnesota Baseball Coaches Association .
• The Young America Cardinals lost one of their own this past fall shortly after the season concluded . Virgil “ Vergie ” Zellmann passed away this past September . Zellmann nearly spent seven decades as a member of the Young America Baseball club and his No . 13 jersey is the only retired number in club history . He was induced into the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990 .
• After a huge success last year , the CRVL and North Star League will once again be facing off in an All-Star Game . This time the CRVL will host the game at Lions Field in Waconia Friday , June 28 .
• The Minnesota Baseball Association will be launching a new website for the coming season . The address will remain the same but the site will have a new look and navigation and should be an upgrade for players and fans to search and follow their favorite teams .
