It ’ s a matter of pride for the Mean Sting

By Jay Neal

On Aug . 2 the University Interscholastic League ruled that Alto would be ineligible for any District 11-2A-II awards in football for the 2022 and 2023 seasons , after it was revealed that an administrative error occurred resulting in the February Snap Shot Day number being off by three students .

That mistake resulted in the Yellowjackets being classified into Class 2A , Division II , instead of Class 2A , Division I during the biannual realignment , which was done earlier this year .
There has never been a shortage of school , or community , pride in Alto and pride will be what the Mean Sting will be playing for this fall , with the playoffs being out of the question for the Jackets .
The Mean Sting have worked hard during two-a-days and have been preparing for the new season in the same manner that they always do .
Brock Grigsby has taken over as head coach at Alto . He formally served as an assistant coach on Ricky Meeks ’ staff at Alto and at Center .
Grigsby doesn ’ t inherit a train wreck , as the Mean Sting went 6-4 overall ( 4-1 in league play ) in 2021 , but the standard and the expectation is high in Alto .
Keegan Davis and Landon Cook received reps at quarterback in the preseason , with Jackson Duplichain and Rashawn Mumphrey expected to tote the rock out of the backfield .
The Mean Stings have at least a couple of guys — Khalil Reagan and Jay Benton that can haul in passes .
Mason Holmes will be a key player on the lines and Keegan Davis is expected to be a player of impact at the linebacker spot .
The teams biggest question marks can be found along the offensive and defensive lines . If the Jackets can solve that puzzle , then the Mean Sting should be in position to win quite a few games this fall .
