America’s Defense
Kenneth Merritt!
It was December 7th, 1941. Japan was preparing their assault on Pearl
Harbor.
The U.S. had discovered the plot and quickly wrote a letter. It arrived 2 hours
prior to the attack. In the cafeteria at Pearl Harbor all the commander said was:
“In my hand I have a letter, a warning, an order. This right here men,” he
said waving the envelope, “This right here men is a warning. The Japanese Air
Force and Navy will be attacking us. Right here. And, I don’t about you, but I
refuse to die today. For our families and friends, for us, for God and for our
nation we will make them pay in BLOOD!!!”
As the ships armed and as the planes fueled, to Japan everything looked
normal. As the Japanese planes and ships moved into their assault positions,
the Americans attacked. Completely taken by surprise the Japanese
scrambled. They weren’t ready to engage yet, but America was.
