Yes, you guessed it. The couple in that photo were Sean and I on the very first night we hung out after his fundraiser at a volleyball game. Neither of us had a clue what would transpire after that night. I never could have my planned my life out this way, but my Savior did, and I am forever grateful.
After reminiscing over the pictures, I reached for my Bible and looked up 1 Corinthians 13:4-8…
“Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails…”
Love never fails. Not during sickness, not during the hard times in life, nor when you are so mad you want to scream and shout. The kind of love God desires us to show, and display through our lives, NEVER fails. I know it’s going to take my whole life to learn this kind of love, and that I will never be perfect at it, but I’m going to try every single day to do my very best.
Sure, love songs are cute, but my Grandparents knew love is more than warm fuzzy feelings. To love Sean with everything that is in me, even when I don’t “feel” like it...that is the goal. True love is not a “feeling,” it's an everyday choice, one that I will be making daily for the rest of my life. I have chosen to forever love him. Not because I HAVE to, not because I feel like it, but because I CHOOSE to.
After scribbling down these random, midnight musings, the sleepiness finally come back to my eyes.
I put the pictures away, and carefully put my ring back. I smiled once more, as I laid down and thanked the Lord that He sent me Grandparents like that.
Grandparents that loved Him and each other so much. I asked that He will let me be that kind of inspiration to others one day, a beacon of hope when there seems to be none. An example of true love, continuing a legacy that lasts forever. I thanked Him for the example of their lives. Through their examples of simple lives lived in extravagant love, I was forever changed.
