#5: Do something fun with them

I can’t wait 'til I actually get my driver’s license (haha), so I can take my little siblings (sisters especially) out to do something fun.  I would love to be able to take Clara to a movie, just the two of us.  We could go get hot chocolate,  hang out at a bookstore (in my family we are book nuts), or –joy of joys– walk around Hobby Lobby for hours.   That would be something she’d remember all her life as

“special sister time.”

#6: Pray with them

If we’re talking really little kids, a word of advice: keep it short and sweet.  But a few heartfelt words of prayer over a sister or brother could be just what they need.  Maybe they had a rough day in school.  Maybe they’re just so tired they want to cry.  Maybe a bedtime giggle and some words with God would make all the pain and weariness go away.

I am a very impatient big sister.  I try...sometimes.  And I fail...a lot.  But God’s teaching me, one day at a time, to be a good sister; a good friend.

Remember that a friend loves at all times, that a cheerful heart is good medicine, and that He has given you a Spirit, not of fear; but of power, love, and self-control.  (Proverbs 17:17, 17:22, and 2 Timothy 1:7)
