When Life Feels Like a Taylor Swift Song

{The Dating Machine}

Let's face it. We've been watching Disney movies our whole lives. After watching the perfect love story, we sigh and wish our lives could look something like that. Every girl desires to be adored by that special someone.

The appeal to date is so huge. Finding the right guy will boost our confidence, make us feel loved and give us mega popularity points! When all our friends are thinking like this and begin whispering about who they think is cute, it's easy to ask yourself the same question. Who will I be dating?

Every girl seems to be running in the same direction, like a massive stampede toward that Disney-inspired love story. But wait... in the midst of all the runners, someone has stopped running. A strange girl actually wanders over to the sidelines and sits down. For a few long moments, she feels like she is all alone. Everyone pushes past her, chasing after their dream boys. The girl on the sidelines can't help but ask herself,

"Am I going to be unpopular? Am I crazy? Am I ever going to find love if I don't chase it? Am I beautiful enough? Will any guy come along and show interest?"

While she is thinking these very thoughts, another young lady stops the wild run and joins her on the sidelines. Then another, and another. All the sweaty competitors still in the race toss cold glances at the girls and begin to gossip about the losers.

"Quitters," they mutter. "Lazy and selfish. They are never going to find love! They'll totally miss out on life! They're avoiding the dating game!"

It may sound strange, but I know many girls who have sat on the sidelines. Including myself. Sure, people say cruel things about us. Our family members ask every Thanksgiving dinner if we have a boyfriend yet, and tell us that we're getting old.
