Going For Gold

If one thing is clear about Rion's life, it's that she's full of passion. She caught the vision at a young age, and hasn't stopped racing toward her dreams since then.

"I think what really inspired me to be able to chase after this dream I have of music, was that I feel like whenever you work for something you want, you have to work for it extra hard and start early. That way, you'll be able to have a long career, and learn different things and all that good stuff, in the beginning. Also, the reason I go after my dream is because it's something that I LOVE to do, to listen to music and perform music. So I thought, 'I want to do this for the rest of my life. This is something I want to do now, so that way I can have this in my future.' It's something I made the decision to do, and I have total control over what I'm going to say, how I'm going to move the world, or what my message is going to be."

Just like an Olympic Gold Medalist, much sacrifice, hard lessons, and tough training times are what makes a champion! Rion learned some valuable stuff while being on the X-Factor.

"I think the biggest lesson I learned from being on the X-Factor is, not to let yourself get in the way of what you want to do. Because you can doubt yourself really easily. Even if you want to chase after it with everything that you have, there are moments when you really want to second guess what you're doing and think, “What?! What did I get myself into?”

But I think something I learned is that you try harder and harder each time, to be where you want to be. If you don't work every time to make yourself better, you're not going to be where you want to be."

I asked Rion what kind of advice she has for her fellow dreamers.

"The advice I would give them is just to want it with everything that you have, and go after it.

I would tell them, 'This is possible.' You see someone who is achieving their dream right now, such as someone that you look up to, like with me for instance with Kimberly Perry from The Band Perry, then follow that someone who is doing what you want to do someday. She was one of those people who wanted it when she was younger. She dreamed of it, and achieved it too, just like me. And the thing that I want to tell them [is this], the person that they look up to was in the same place they are in right now, and they took action in order to be able to do that. We're all people, and we're all just on the same little scale here, and we all have potential and our own destiny. Everyone has something they strive for."
