How did you come up with the name Kaleidoscope, and what is the meaning behind it?

Coming up with a band name can be hard work! We were searching for the “perfect” name and were struggling to come up with something we felt connected and represented us well. However, during that process we wrote a song with a friend, called "Kaleidoscope," and it said—“Like a Kaleidoscope, set in motion, He’s making beauty out of the broken.” We just loved the fact that a Kaleidoscope exemplifies how God views us! Our story as a band represents the fact that God’s plan is so much bigger and better than anything we could ever dream up, and sometimes we don't even see how He is fitting all the pieces together until much later! Natalie comes from California and Cammie comes from Texas, but God took all of the puzzle pieces of our lives and formed this beautiful picture that allows us to live out what He created us for! All of our lives are full of a lot of brokenness, but God takes those pieces and creates something extraordinary and beautiful, just as a Kaleidoscope takes lots of broken pieces to create a beautiful piece of art.

What are the stories behind the songs “Love Like You” and “Every Tomorrow”?

The message behind “Love Like You” is pretty true to the title of the song! We wanted to write a song that talked about our desire to love like God loves. As believers, His love is what sets us apart from the world, and we want others to know us by that love. When someone recognizes love in us, they are actually recognizing God, since He is love! We don’t want to stop at mediocre or typical, but rather go above and beyond, and love others just like He loves us!

“Every Tomorrow” is a very special song for us—As artists breaking into the music industry it can be extremely scary, and easy to question what God has in store for us. Regardless of our age, job or situation in life, as humans we constantly doubt, question and get anxious about our unknown future. This song addresses these fears and anxiety for tomorrow, and reminds us that we have a God whose plans are far greater than ours, so there is never any need to worry! Psalm 139:16 says, “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment as laid out before a single day had passed.” Our God is a God of yesterday, today, and tomorrow—there are no surprises for Him. He has it planned out perfectly, and we just need to trust Him every step of the way. We need to surrender our “tomorrows” and trust in His perfect plan.

What would be your advice to a girl who has a dream of becoming a singer?

Go for it! If you dream of becoming a singer, start praying over that dream. Ask the Lord to align your desires and dreams with His. Don’t be afraid to dream big because we can promise you God has huge plans in store for you as long as you are willing to trust Him throughout the process! Practice so you can get better in this area of gifting, and start singing at different events whether that is your school's choir, a musical or leading worship at church. Immerse yourself in as many musical opportunities as you can so you can grow and also make sure this is truly what you love and want to do! Every singer you look up to had to start somewhere. A lot of days we still feel like those girls with big dreams looking up to our Father with trust and patience that He alone knows why He put those dreams in our hearts and how He is going to make them come to fruition.

5. What was your dream as a little girl and what is your dream now?

We both had a lot of dreams as we were growing up. Obviously we were both passionate about music, singing and performing, but also loved a variety of other things. Natalie loved dancing, musical theater, and leading worship at her church and Cammie was also a dancer, she was the class president, and in show choir. Both of our parents supported our passions and cheered us on with whatever our dreams were! We absolutely could have ended up as journalists, teachers, or any other job outside of the music industry, but the Lord definitely directed us on the path we are on now as musicians. As we grew older our dreams transformed more and more into dreams that were Kingdom minded and Christ centered. Our dream is not our own, but one we share with God. We believe He has called us to better His Kingdom and transform lives through His love. Our dream is to impact as many people as we can—sharing Christ’s love with them and reminding them of who they were created to be. We feel honored and privileged to get the opportunity to do this through our music and cannot wait to see what the Lord does through us over the years!

6. What would be your advice to a young girl who is entering her teen years?

Stay true to who you are. Those words might feel simple or cliché, but we both know that our teen years are filled with a lot of peer pressure and desire to be someone or something we aren’t. It is extremely hard to be the one person standing up for what you believe in. It is SO much easier to go along with the crowd, but God asks us to be in the world but NOT of it! You might not get to see it in your teen years, but trust us, the decisions you make at a young age can have a huge impact on others! People will notice when you choose to follow your beliefs and moral convictions over the ways of this world. Every action and every word has the power to bring life or death—choose life and plant seeds of God’s perfect love in everyone you encounter!

7. What is one thing that you want your fans to take away from your music?

We want our fans to walk away with a confidence in knowing who they are in Christ. Part of our story is that we both come from fairly “average” backgrounds. Our testimony is powerful simply because we were once dead and now are alive in Christ! With that we want to live out the idea that even though we may be “average” girls, we don’t want to live average lives! We want to encourage our fans to live crazy, radical lives for Christ! And we can live out those lives when we know who and whose we are—a daughter or son of the one true King! We each have a unique and beautiful story, embrace that and live it out!
