Crown of Beauty Magazine The Beauty Issue | Page 26

Would you consider yourselves very fashion-forward and trend-conscience, or do you just wear whatever you like without giving a second thought to trends and fads?

Becca: For me, it’s important not to follow trends for the sake of following them. I have to actually like it. I’m conscious of the message I send with what I wear, so I am picky when I shop. And there’s part of me that likes the classic look, that isn’t so cutting edge. Some of those trends will be gone fast. When I buy something I want to like it for a while.

What are your favorite stores?

Elissa: I love H&M when I can find one nearby. Also, Love Culture and Forever 21.

Becca: I like H&M, Forever 21 and the Buckle (when there’s a sale )

If you were Disney Princesses, which ones would you be and why?

Elissa: Sleeping Beauty, because I love my sleep!

Becca: Pocahontas, because she was real! But I always loved Cinderella growing up.

We caught up with PureNRG’s Caroline Grace Williams! As a young teen, she performed on the hit Christian-kid TV show iShine, participated in their tour, and used her talents to bring glory to God.

Now, Caroline is starting a new chapter in her life, and we got to ask her all about it!

Acting on iShine Knect, performing, singing, dancing and used to be vocalist for PureNRG...woah girl, talk about keeping busy! What are you up to these days? Are you still on the stage? Any future performing plans? I still LOVE to perform and that will probably never change. Lately I feel like God has called me to be a light in odd places. I am currently at Miami University in Oxford, OH for Music Theater and Health Promotion. I know it's a strange combination, but it is a combination of two things that I love. I love acting/singing/dancing and I hope to be able to live in NYC or LA one day and pursue them professionally, but I know it's a really hard business. I hope to use the Health Promotion major to possibly go back to school and become a Physical Therapist if my dream of being a performer doesn't work out.

So many fans are eager to know, now that PureNRG is over, are you still going to be involved with iShine? And if so, how heavily involved? I have been involved with iShine for three years now. I made an appearance in seasons 3, 4, and 5 as well as the season 3 tour. I love iShine! It's a great way to continue sharing and promoting uplifting, positive messages to youth. As for season 6, I am praying to see what God has in store for me. Now that I am in college and becoming involved with ministry here, I am hoping he opens some new doors.

Have you ever considered branching out and auditioning for larger, more "worldly" roles, maybe something on Disney Channel where you would have a larger sphere of influence? Why or why not? Actually I have! I don't know what God has in store for me but I got an agent this summer. I figured if something, like getting a role on a major network, is supposed to happen God will make it happen. But for now, I am working on my acting training in college so I can be prepared.

For so many of your fans and followers, it's easy to look at you and think, "Wow, she's so confident and beautiful!" Do you feel as confident as you look when you're onstage? Yes and no. I have good days and bad days, just like everyone else. I feel confident because of the Lord. I live for Him. My faith is in Him and through Him, I can do anything. I set Phil 4:13 as the background on my phone to always remind me of this.

What about life offstage? What do you like to do in your downtime? Do you get to hang out with friends, or go to a regular school? I just graduated from high school in May. After pureNRG ended, I decided to go to back to school. I went to Harpeth Hall, an all girls' school, in Nashville, TN. I loved it! Now I am in college in Ohio. While I was in high school, I cheered, danced, sang in the chamber choir, and did hair and make-up for the school plays. In my downtime now, I enjoy hanging out with my friends and meeting new people on campus. I am involved with Cru (Campus Crusades), so I spend some time with them too.

This issue is all about TRUE beauty. Have you ever struggled with feeling un-beautiful or worthless? Why or why not? Yes! All the time, I struggle with not feeling good enough. I constantly have to remind myself that I am a child of God, and I am who He wants me to be. I can't change it, and I can't do anything about it. All I can do is embrace it.

What would you say to a friend who might be struggling with these things? I would offer to pray over them and talk with them on a regular basis about their personal struggle. I would share Matthew 6:26-32. This is a passage that a friend of mine shared with me when I was feeling worthless last year. It basically says don't worry because God will always be there for you.

Do you wear makeup when you’re not performing? Do you think makeup is a good idea for girls?

I do wear makeup, but not much. If anything, I wear mascara. I have blonde, puny eye lashes and I look sickly without mascara... lol. However, if I do dress up, I am a big fan of natural looking make up. There is no need to look like a clown. You are beautiful the way you are. Make up is supposed to enhance what God already gave you, not create a fake person.

What about fashion advice? Are there certain styles you tend to gravitate toward? Anything you steer clear from? My style is preppy, cute, bright, and fun. I like to dress in classy, modest clothing. I think it's really important to steer away from revealing clothing. It's not attractive. Guys don't think of you as prettier because you are showing more leg or chest. It actually sends the message that you don't care about your body and you don't respect it. Most of my friends in college have a different understanding of "dressing up" than I do. Their version is dressing in revealing clothing- tight skirts and short shirts. The first few weeks of school, I kept calling my mom to complain that I didn't have enough "going out" clothes, because I didn't dress like my friends. Finally, I realized that dressing like that wasn't me, and it wasn't appropriate or attractive. I know it's hard when you see celebrities, your own friends, and most of our society dressing provocatively, but stay classy.

To you, what is the definition of true beauty? True beauty is being able to see yourself in God's image and loving the person that He created you to be.

Bonus question: Who is your favorite Disney Princess? Well, I grew up in love with Snow White. I wore her costume every day. Every time I ate an apple, I would faint. I wouldn't wake up until someone kissed me. I was kind of dramatic... lol. Although I still love Snow White, I have begun a strong liking for Ariel. Who doesn't want that perfect red hair? :)
