TCU STEM SCHOLAR
Paz, the first in her family to attend college, is a part
of the inaugural class of STEM Scholars at TCU.
The STEM Scholar Program is designed to reach
students traditionally underrepresented in STEM fields.
The program, which begins this summer, offers a full
scholarship. Scholars receive support from mentors as they
learn research methods, receive networking opportunities
and participate in group activities and educational travel,
according to TCU.
A team of TCU representatives surprised Paz and her
mom at Crowley High School in April with the news
about her full scholarship. She was one of only five to
earn the award.
“There’s honestly not even words to explain it,” Paz
said after the surprise. “My mind is blown. I’m shocked.
I’m happy. I’m nervous. I’m excited. There’s so many
emotions at once.”
She
