Project Playhouse
This spring, students from child guidance, interior
design and construction at the B.R. Johnson Career &
Tech Center put their skills to the test, designing and
constructing a playhouse for the Crowley ISD Employee
Child Development Center at Jackie Carden Elementary.
The design phase started in the fall, as the
students thought through every detail of the
project, including budget, functionality and safety.
The students then had to pitch the final design to
the director of the program, Shawneequa Blount.
“I wanted a playhouse that would allow the students a
space to have picnics, read and use their imaginations,”
Blount said. “I am so proud of our enhanced outdoor
learning space. Each time I take someone out to tour our
facility, I get the privilege to say the space was designed
by Crowley ISD students.”
By spring break, most of the playhouse was constructed
at the career & tech center, then broken down, delivered
and re-assembled on site by the construction students. It
includes benches around the trees nearby and a painted
mini community roadway for tricycles on the blacktop.
