Let the Games Begin
The Panther Olympics celebrate students and brings the district together
The fourth annual Panther Olympics were held at
North Crowley High School, giving the district’s students
with special needs an opportunity to compete in a variety
of field events. The theme for this year was “Togetherness:
Regardless of our differences, we are all the same.”
“We invite our olympians from Crowley High School,
North Crowley Ninth Grade and North Crowley High
School to compete and have a good day,” NCHS Student
Leadership teacher Laneece Yarbough-Anderson said. “We
have lots of encouragement going on to make it an amazing
day for our olympians.”
Overall, the day had more than 90 participants and
200 student volunteers. The festivities started with
opening ceremonies, the national anthem and a parade of
champions through the hallways of NCHS. The olympians
flashed big smiles as they waved to cheering classmates
and teachers.
The field events included the 100-meter dash, 50-meter
walk, 400-meter relay and tug of war, while other activities
such as bounce houses, softball toss, photo booths and a
snow cone stand were scattered across the football field.
All students had the opportunity to pull for each other and
build relationships with one another.
“Panther Olympics is a great opportunity for the
high schools to come together,” CHS Student Leadership
teacher Holly Varley said. “It’s amazing to see the love they
have for each other and how much they help each other.
We may have our differences, but we are all family and we
come together and love each other in our district.”
