Minutes from the CRVL meeting January 16

Guest Chad Eischens from the North West Umpires was in attendance to discuss the issues the league and umpires had during the 2016 season . Namely the missed 2 umpire game and other points addressed in the email correspondence from Chad and Sec . Kuerschner . There was a lengthy discussion on all points , ultimately the NW Umpires are not willing to renegotiate the contract and feel that they have upheld the contract .
Chris Schultz and Bill Norman were present from the Herald Journal . Chris spoke first in regards to the services that the Herald Journal does for the league including discussing the traffic to the website . Chris said to encourage other media outlets to use the league website to get information on the league teams especially the stats provided . Chris offered to only take 5 % from the bar card sales , but up the cost for each teams review ads to $ 375 and then $ 385 over the next 2 years . Bill Norman then discussed the bar cards and recommended that we stay at $ 10 per card . He handed out last year ’ s review ad copy to all the clubs and reminded the group that the Hot Stove Edition will be coming out in February . Plans on all the drop points to be the same as last year for all the review papers to each club . With these items discussed , Rich Schug ( Hamburg ) moved to approve the plan for 2018 , review ad price to go up the $ 375 , 2019 go to $ 385 and then decrease the bar card percentage to Herald Journal to 5 % in 2018 , Brandon Stender ( Young America ) seconded , motion carried .
Jeremy Stender from KGLB radio informed the group that there will be a Hot Stove Radio Show on February 25th . He asked if there are any special dates that your club may have to get them to him and he will look to include those in the 15 game broadcast schedule .
Secretary ’ s Report – Brandon Stender ( Young America ) moved to approve the minutes as emailed , Dennis Zabel ( St Boni ) seconded , motion carried .
Treasurer ’ s Report – Treasurer Kuerschner went through the entire 2016 year expenses and deposits and also provided a budget for the upcoming year . The league ended the year
CRVL team awards from page 8 with a balance of $ 1,640.83 . Dennis Zabel ( St Boni ) moved to accept the Treasurer ’ s report as given , Stephan Wiblemo ( Glencoe ) seconded , motion carried .
State Board Report – Tom Lemke discussed the baseballs that were approved for the state tourney for the next 3 years , the Rawlings FSRMBA . He also informed the group that Class B will now have 4 sections that will send 4 teams each on to the state tourney . There are some Handbook rule changes but we will discuss them at the March meeting when we all have the new 2017 handbooks . Town Ball Classic will have Green Isle as a participant again this year as they were rained out last year . Contact Joe Kreger ( Green Isle ) for tickets .
Tom then discussed the criteria for determining class “ B ” and “ C ”. Very shortly the state website will be requesting some additional information for the managers to update based on their roster from last season . The state board is still collecting data to help determine if this format is viable to determine classifications . It was stated to please have this info updated as soon as possible so that the board has good numbers to work off when they discuss this in greater detail prior to the February state meeting .
Old Business
Status of Norwood – Jim Zellmann was present from Norwood and had nothing new to present to the league .
Election of Officers – As we went back to 2 , 7 team leagues with Norwood not involved at this time we needed to re-elect Presidents of those leagues . The respective leagues met to discuss by themselves and elected their Presidents .
North President – Dennis “ Soup ” Campbell ; South President – Jim Zellmann
Region Host – New Germany - informed the group that the new press box to be built above the concession stand is scheduled to begin the 3rd week of February and be ready for the beginning of the season .
Waconia – their grandstand project is proceeding nicely and they expect everything to be ready with the
opening of the amateur season .
Draftable Pitchers – this issue was tabled from the October meeting . There was a lot of discussion on this topic , ultimately the consensus was to reiterate to the players the importance of being drafted and then to make sure the list is as accurate as possible .
All Star Game / HOF – much discussion ensued specifically about the HOF , there were a couple of different places mentioned to partner with for showcasing the inductees as well as team paraphernalia . Ultimately the topic was tabled to the March meeting to form a committee after the teams have an opportunity to discuss within their own clubs any further interest . The All Star game was also tabled for further discussion in March .
New Business
Rich Schug ( Hamburg ) moved to increase the league dues to $ 150 for 2017 , Dustin Brockoff ( Carver ) seconded , motion carried . Each team will present a check payable to CRVL at the March meeting for $ 150 for dues , $ 365 for review ads , and tbd insurance cost . Secretary Kuerschner will inform the clubs of the cost per team once the policy is set with HP Insurance and Bob Kreie . The teams can combine all three dollar amounts into one check and the treasurer will disburse to the appropriate places .
There being no other new business , acting President Sell asked for a motion to adjourn .
Brandon Stender ( Young America ) so moved , Dennis Zabel ( St Boni ) seconded , motion carried , meeting adjourned at 9:45 p . m . standings season , his team named him the Pitcher of the Year .
McCormick posted a 2.39 ERA over 67 innings of work . He also struck-out a league-high 85 batters , and was tied for third in wins with five .
Glencoe Brewers : The Glencoe Brewers selected Mason Goettl as their team MVP . Goettl led the team in RBI with 11 , and hit . 230 in 2016 .
Jamie Paumen was the ace for the Brewers all season long , and was named the Pitcher of The Year for his team . Paumen worked 53 innnings , posting a 2.38 ERA .
Green Isle Irish : Aaron Bigaouette was one of the best players in the league in 2016 . He batted . 455 with two homeruns and 14 RBI for the Irish , and was named the team MVP .
On the mound , Mac Zachow was named the Pitcher of The Year for the Irish . Zachow was one of the most dominant pitchers in the league this past year . He posted a perfect 4-0 record , while recoring 34 strikeouts in 35 innings of work . Zachow was drafted by the Waconia Lakers for their state tournament run , as well .
Hamburg Hawks : For the Hamburg Hawks , Jeff Hancock was named the team ’ s MVP . Hancock hit . 310 for the Hawks in 2016 , and tied for a team-high in doubles , with four .
Taz Seibert was the ace on the mound for the Hawks , and was named Pitcher of The Year for his squad . Siebert posted a 2-2 record , while giving up eight earned runs in 21 innings of work .
Plato Bluejays : There ’ s one simple reason the Plato Bluejays were the top team in the CRVL in 2016 . It ’ s because they had Matt Odegaard .
Odegaard led the league in batting average (. 493 ), RBI ( 28 ), runs scored ( 32 ), doubles ( 8 ), triples ( 3 ), and homeruns ( 5 ). With his incredible season , Odegaard was named the team ’ s MVP , as well as the CRVL MVP .
Chris Odegaard was named the team ’ s Pitcher of The Year . He led the team in wins , with seven , and strikeouts , with 50 . He also posted an impressive ERA of 1.34 .

KGLB to host 8th Annual CRVL Hot Stove Report

KGLB Radio will air their 8 th annual CRVL Hot Stove Report on Saturday , February 25th from 11am to 1pm . Hear about offseason news from around the league , the state , and get a sneak preview of the 2017 State Amateur Baseball Tournament being hosted in Norwood , Hamburg and Green Isle .
Special guests will include Charlie Storms of Norwood , Rich Schug of Hamburg and Joe Kreger from Green Isle . Also joining Jeremy Stender and Chris Dammann will be representatives of the Waconia Baseball Association to discuss their new grandstand .
In addition , we ’ ll hear from Tom Lemke , a director for the Minnesota Baseball Association and Dave Sell , who will offer a league report and talk about his recent induction in the MBA Hall of Fame .
