Special CRVL meeting to be held July 11
A special meeting for the members of the Crow River Valley League ( CRVL ) will be held Monday , July 11 at Dubb ’ s Grill in Glencoe .
The purpose of the meeting , as stated in the CRVL release , is : “ to discuss in further detail the topic brought up at the roster meeting on June 27th , regarding the recruiting practices of Green Isle as it pertains to their players and the essence of Town Team Baseball , specifically Class C .”
The meeting was called by the Watertown , Glencoe , and Mayer ball clubs , and will be used to discuss how the situation with Green Isle will be handled .
Discussion points for the meeting as described , per the release , that “ It is in that same spirit of town team baseball that we would like the league to recommend to the state board to look at the roster and recruiting practices of the Green Isle Irish and strongly consider reclassifying them as a Class B team . Green Isle ’ s 23-man roster consists of 16 current or former college baseball players , many of whom have been recruited from communities far from Green Isle such as Minnetonka , Victoria and Excelsior . Eight of those college players have addresses from 25 miles out or further , and 10 are from 20 miles out or further .
Just six players on their roster come from their home school district , Sibley East , and 11 are within a 15-mile radius .”
Although teams recognized some of these players have been a part of the Green Isle ’ s roster in past years , the reason to protest now is for the three reasons , per the release .
“ We see the state board ’ s efforts this year to create a new point-based system as a sign that it recognizes the ongoing problems and manipulation of the current system by some teams , and it is willing to take appropriate action . We looked at the state board ’ s vote to reclassify the Chanhassen Red Birds , in accordance with the River Valley League ’ s request , as a precedent set for matters such as this .
Green Isle has continued to recruit college players throughout the year , and its latest recruits , which were reported shortly before the state boards June meeting , are two college pitchers from Minnetonka that formerly played for Class A teams Edina and Minnetonka . We believe Green Isle sees the new point-based system coming in the next year and realizes this may be its last chance to go for a Class C state title with its current team .

It is operating with a win-at- any-cost attitude and loading up on players , despite the questionable ethics of its recruiting . As such , we believe it is appropriate to take immediate and severe action at this late juncture in the season .”
