After a crazy and contested regular season in the Crow River Valley Leauge, all of
the top seeds but one came through to advance to the Region 7C Tourmanent. Perenial powerhouses Plato, Waconia, Green
Isle, and Winsted each earned sweeps on
their way to picking up a berth in the tournament.
Although all of the six series were a
sweep, there were some great games around
the area as teams battled it out for a berth in
the Region 7C Tournament.
Winsted and Mayer may have been the
best series in the opening round of playoffs.
On paper, it seemed like a mismatch from
the start, but that’s why they play the games.
The Wildcats, who defeated the Blazers
twice in the regular season, 13-2 and 14-2,
needed extra innings in both games as the
Blazers gave them all they could handle.
In game one, fans witnessed maybe one
of the greatest no decisions in baseball.
Tony Kley was masterful on the mound, but
his offense was nearly non-existent. Kley
threw 10 shutout innings, allowed one hit,
while striking out 21 batters on his way to
picking up the no decision.
The Wildcats finally pushed the gamewinning run across in the bottom of the
12th, when pinch-hitter Cullen Schultz was
hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two
outs to give the Wildcats the win and take a
1-0 lead in the series.
In game two, it was the Blazers who
came through in the bottom of the ninth on
an RBI double by Tanner Luebke to force
extra innings again. The Wildcats were able
to push to go-ahead run acorss in the top of
the 10th on a wild pitch, and held on for the
sweep and a berth in the Region 7C Tournament.
Brownton and Watertown also battled it
out as the No. 8 and No. 9 seed fought to
keep their seasons alive. In game one, errors cost the Red Devils in a close 3-2 loss,
and the Bruins came ready to play in game
two as they crusied to a 7-1 win to punch
