Rózsák Square ’ s St . Elizabeth Parish Church : According to a 13th century legend , St . Elizabeth of the House of Árpád secretly took fresh bread for the poor when she met her father . When questioned , she said that her apron hid roses , and the bread miraculously turned into fragrant flowers . Several centuries later , at the end of the 1800s , a Roman Catholic church was erected in honour of the blessed woman on a square , which received the name Rózsák (“ Roses ”) Square shortly after . Today , it is one of the finest ecclesiastical buildings of Budapest and the sacral pair of the Parliament , as its French Gothic style , rose windows and stained glass praise the plans of Imre Steindl , as well . Mass is held every day of the week , and on Saturdays , the space in front of the church gives place to a farmers ’ market .
