Crossing Canada With The Maplemusketeer Volume One - An Overview (June 2014) | Page 68
Welcome to Abbotsford, where I’m helping
Adam and Nathan bottle their homebrew while
sampling some of their past efforts, as well. Adam
was present for a camping trip in which we started
what is, to date, the most difficult campfire
I’ve ever built. It involved setting up above the
snowline on a mountain on the Sunshine Coast,
and working with frozen rainforest wood that we
had to dig out of the snow. It was a grand adventure.
Nathan was one of the camp counsellors
I was responsible for as a resource counsellor
many years ago. We’ve stayed in touch over the
years, and I even did an inspired musical spoken
word version of ‘Lovers From A Dangerous Time’
at his wedding. That’s a story for another time.
On the previous page, you can see the little old
point and shoot camera that I started this trip
with. Worn, and well-used, with smeg on the
sensor, I didn’t let that limit me from starting
the project. You could always have ‘more/better/
other’ gear, but letting that stop you from most
projects is a safety/fear thing. I encourage you
to step through that and create. It’s awkward
and intimidating, but good.
