Forward the road
always beckons
until its close
Our pace, at first a child’s carefree
run, gets tempered by the stumbles
and pain, falters and falls. We
interpret this road as a dangerous
place, internalize many strategies
to try to avoid pain, and our run
slows down to the slowest of crawls.
We wander side-paths and loop
around again and again, changing
scenery, relationships, and jobs, but
not addressing the underlying fears,
strategies, and perspectives we
operate on.
We wander, we tread
along these paths
until the end
But we can pause and look around.
We can ask questions. We can travel
a bit further along the path, into
the forests, up the hills, along the
hard work, and the good work, of
discovery.
This is my journey.
This is our journey.
Until it is no more.
Shall we see what’s around that next
corner?
