Crossing Canada With The Maplemusketeer Volume One - An Overview (June 2014) | Page 142
I wake up in Winnipeg to a text from
my friend Mark who is in town for Folk
Fest and a wedding. He asks if I have
plans for the day and if I’m into helping
work on a fence for a friend of his. I
say ‘Ok’, they come pick me up, and we
drive to the house in question. It is a
lot of hot, sweaty, fun work filled with
laughter. I only smack my thumb really
hard once. By the end of the day, we’ve
completed the fence and built and hung
a big sliding gate.
I don’t know where in Winnipeg the
house is, as they do the driving with me
along for the ride, taking pictures.
They also encourage me to crash an
upcoming wedding of our mutual friend.
It’s not something I’m comfortable doing,
but I am comfortable volunteering to
help set-up for the wedding, so I’m going
to send a message to my friend, the bride,
whom I once went on a multi-day canoe
trip with in Northern Ontario.
