There is an increasingly good chance that if the person I am about to describe isn’t you, then you know someone like him. He is a vain, spendthrift, nerdy individual who romanticises about his bicycle. He squeezes his skinny, most likely hairless, legs into skintight items of clothing which cost him way more than any of his regular day to day clothes.

Now, I know this man because I am faced with him in the mirror every Sunday morning as I prepare to go out on a club ride, and see him reflected in shop windows as I ride through town centres with fellow like minded people… He is me.

However, I am not alone… our number is growing as a sport that has long been ridiculed is going through a revolution and being celebrated by the burgeoning of clothing, books and most recently, Cafes. We are the generation of the image conscious men for whom the thought of wearing trainers in cages or having a hi-vis seat cover is all too much… I can barely type the words it’s that difficult to fathom.
