What goes into a cyclist pockets? The pro peloton usually have little in their pockets apart from food, but those of us who do not have a support car following us on rides need to have a bit more than that. We spoke to resident Criterium Magazine rider and writer, Robert Paynter to find out what he takes out on a ride.

Money/Card:

Really useful for cafe stops, emergency taxis or trains and food if you have run out of energy.

Innertubes:

It’s much quicker to replace a tube and repair it at home than repair it on the roadside.

Pump and/or CO2 Cartridges:

Use in conjunction with the inner tube! A pump is reusable but CO2 cartridges can get a tube up to pressure faster

Tools:

A small tool kit can stop a mid ride mechanical turning into a ride ending disaster

Allen Keys:

A small foldable set of allen keys which fit the various sized screws and bolts on your bike will allow you to make sure everything is tight as it needs to be.

Spanner:

If your bike has components which are attached with nuts and bolts, a small adjustable spanner will be invaluable. >>>
