Ramsbottom
WATER BASED
COMPOUNDS
AND ADHESIVES
“We recently took over as the main club sponsor;
I used to play football for Ramsbottom United and
started watching cricket at the club. My boys, Mark
and Michael, both played as youngsters and while
Mark moved abroad Michael still plays and has
captained the second team.
The club has been successful for twenty years so
they must be doing something and have some great
facilities along with a good young team. Keep up
the good work and all the best for the forthcoming
season.”

the great game of cricket.
It is always a challenge to provide
coaches, most of whom do the job
on a voluntary basis, but we always
seem to be able to meet the demand
and many of these volunteers are
happy to gain their coaching badges
at various levels.
We are a family club with many
generations being a big part of this.
As an example, our President is Brian
Fielding, a former player, our senior
first XI player is his son, Jon Fielding
who now plays with his two sons,
Brad and JJ. We are proud of this
heritage of generations remaining to
support RCC.
The above exemplifies that
we are very much a community
club. We provide facilities for our
neighbours Ramsbottom United FC,
for Ramsbottom ladies rounders
team, for Ramsbottom Town table
tennis, for Ramsbottom Homing
Pigeon Society and for Ramsbottom
Ladies Superleague Darts team along
with supporting other voluntary
organisations. It is often a challenge
which has to be met on the whole by

dedicated volunteers but it is most
rewarding when everything turns
out right.
Undoubtedly there are big
challenges ahead, the biggest of
which is finance. Most cricket clubs
do a wonderful job in supporting
and providing facilities for their
local communities. However, there
is little or no support received from
politicians and thus fundraising
efforts by club members and
volunteers appears to be the only
way forward. Oh how I wish we
could get some sports minded MPs
instead of the current breed who
on the face of it have no interest in
sport. Despite all this the clubs will
soldier on with the help of their
members and continue to provide
entertainment at little or no cost
to the loyal supporters who like
ourselves enjoy and love the game.
