James Bracey joined us a few years ago from his childhood club Winterbourne in an effort to make the grade as a country cricketer with Gloucestershire CCC. Through his own hard work and skill, he has managed this and has now, unfortunately, but understandably, gone back to his ‘home’ club to help them out. We wish him all the best for the season ahead, but maybe not so against us! So, we are missing some 1500 league runs at 1st team level, which is not a trivial amount. However, we are quietly confident that the players we have at the Club will be able to bridge this gap. I fully expect over half of the 1st XI to be made up of ex youth players - the likes of Will Tavare (current Gloucestershire CCC), Lisle Durrans, Sheridan Leech, Louie Shaw and Fin Trenouth (both England U19), Tommy Probert, Jack 22 Issue 49 Ellison and Vir Lakhani will have every opportunity to make telling contributions for the Club. With Will Rudge (ex-Gloucestershire CCC) as 1st XI Captain and opening bowler, we are well placed to challenge for honours. CC: How would you say the off- season has gone for the club? HE: Good progress has been made in ensuring that we have the right infrastructure up at the Club. We are investing in top coaches to ensure all of our players get the very best coaching. This is important for all players, but none more so than the younger ones. As such, we have recently made Andy Stovold Head Coach. Stov was a key player for Gloucestershire CCC as ‘keeper/ batsman for many years and he has been involved at Bristol CC for a number of years, but he is now taking on even more responsibilities. CC: What are your plans for 2019? HE: We want to compete hard at all levels. The League is important to us for all three teams and we would also be looking for a good run in both the ECB National KO and the National T20 competitions. We played some good cricket last year and comfortably won the WEPL T20 competition before eventually going out in the Regional Finals. Going forwards we want to go back to running four teams on a Saturday, so that we can offer even more opportunities for junior players coming through. On the money front, we are looking to do more fund-raising and to get in more sponsors as we want to keep moving forward. We are fortunate to have the best square in WEPL and have a Partnership agreement with Gloucestershire CCC who use our ground for practice and both 2nd team and Academy games. Going forward, we will be looking to replace a couple more strips on the main square to keep improving our
