it is where I started. We are an ECB Clubmark Club. We
also run the ECB Allstars too.
“We try and blood them into the 3rd team when we
feel that they are ready and also when the parents are
happy too. New for this season we have entered a side
into the local evening T20 League where we will mix six
or seven Juniors with seniors every week.
“We are definitely a community club, our large
function room is used every day from Spinning Classes,
Salsa, Choir, Artists, Bridge as well as Weddings,
Christenings and other celebrations. The Ground is also
used for Ladies Rounders during the summer months.
“During the Football World Cup last year we had 300
to 400 people watching the games. So yes, we definitely
are part of the community. We are only closed three Days
of the Year; Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s
Day. We are very well supported by the local business
community who are very generous not only financially
but also with their time and resources. Without their
support we wouldn’t be where we are.
“Our biggest challenge is that participation levels are
falling in senior cricket. Our juniors are thriving but it is
the retention once people hit their late teens and early 20’s
that is the problem! We would love to get Oswestry into
the Premier League! It’s just one promotion away but we
want to do it in the right way with the main core of the 1st
team coming through the juniors.”
