Melrose CC: What do you believe could be some of the biggest challenges the club may face in the next five years? RW: One of the biggest challenges will be sustaining good numbers for a youth team and enabling these players to progress into the senior squad. Another issue could be progressing up through the leagues. As the opposition gets better we may need to fund for a professional coach to do a few sessions a season so that players can identify key aspects to work on. Melrose CC is a great club with a lot of support so I’m sure any challenges will be dealt with in a positive and enthusiastic way. even further after that. For the youth team, we want to sustain numbers and also encourage other teams in the borders to do the same so that a constant youth league can be set up during the season and not just certain games set up by players parents involved in the club. Hopefully we can keep our wicket unpredictable and ‘fun’ and carry on working with the ground staff of the Borders General Hospital, who kindly cut our outfield.
