The Grange The Grange CRICKET CLUB Founded in 1832, the Grange Cricket Club is one of Scotland’s leading cricket clubs. Their picturesque ground is located in the Stockbridge area of central Edinburgh and regularly hosts Scotland’s international matches. They have three weekend league sides with the 1st XI playing in the Cricket Scotland League Eastern Premiership. The 2nd XI play in the Championship Division and the 3rd XI in Division 3 of the East of Scotland League. 2018 was a very memorable season for the Club with the 1st XI completing ‘The Treble’ - winners of the Eastern Premier Division, National Club Championship and the Scottish Cup. To top it all, the 2nd XI won the ESCA Championship for the first time. The 3rd XI competed strongly in East Division 3 but finally had to settle on fourth place. The U15’s won their Scottish Cup and were Scottish Regional winners of the ECB Vitality Club Championship. Speaking after the season on the club’s official website, www.grangecricket.org, President Rawdon Hesketh, said, “my thanks to everyone, who by their efforts make play possible; scorers, umpires, tea ladies (or lad’dies) and their helpers, coaches, ground staff (Tom and Kevin), the committees (Junior, Senior and General), team captains, Robin Pollok, Bobby Frazer, Neil Ritchie, Justin Lyons (Club Manager) and our bar staff.” Guaranteed sunshine from May to July, a low number of injuries, juniors breaking into the senior teams and performing, delicious BBQs, and a great club spirit were all contributing factors to the club’s success. A highlight of recent years has been the growth and achievements of their Junior Section, now with 180 plus members. They offer regular coaching from the age of five (initially using the Kwik Cricket format) for both boys and girls, and junior teams start at under 10. Grange Cricket Club is ambitious and will continue to work to be successful in 2019 and with that in mind are seeking new members, stating on their website that, “Our aim is to attract club players of all ages and all standards, so if you are looking to play cricket, or put something back into the game you have enjoyed playing, then please make contact.” Grange Cricket Club’s success on the field is a just reward for all of the hard work that has gone into making them a success. If they continue in this manner they should be able to look forwards to a bright and successful future for many years to come.
