BDM1937_1810_1 We lay on a number of social events both for club members and the wider public throughout the year, such as a £2000 Draw Day and a Race Night, as well as hosting a Fireworks Night and providing parking for the nearby Christmas Market and University Graduation ceremonies, in conjunction with other constituent clubs at the Lindum. The other aspect which remains fundamental to our club is the focus on our young players. The initials of the sadly departed Harry Pougher are embedded on the sleeves of our playing shirts as a reminder of the work he did in laying the foundations of the club, with youth very much at its heart. A high proportion of our senior players came through the junior system at the club, with our Sunday Academy side providing the perfect platform as we transition our juniors into adult cricket. The club faces a number of challenges over the next five years. Firstly, it is imperative we maintain our youth system as they are ultimately the future of the club. Similarly, as these juniors progress into the senior sides, the kids taking part in the All-Star scheme will hopefully remain at the club and take their place in the junior teams. Another task we face as a club is to keep building on the success of our floodlit tournament – this year’s was the biggest and best yet, and it’s vital we continue to make it a real treat for cricketers and spectators alike in the years to come. On the field, it’s a huge ambition of the club for the 1st XI to win the ECB Premier League; a feat we are yet to achieve. It is a challenge to compete with the strength and financial power of some of the sides in the division, but the aim is to develop our youngsters in such a way that they can be the foundations to a trophy-winning side. Off the field, our clubhouse is currently undergoing well overdue refurbishment to enable it to become an inviting and friendly place for people to socialise, further increasing our influence in the community. The club is, in many ways, heading full throttle in the right direction. Article provided by Ollie Alford, 2nd XI Captain #UTL #doitforHP www.sportip.biz 9
