CRICKET CLUB
H
enley CC is based on Matson Drive in Berkshire and their first team
currently competes in Division 1 of the Home Counties Premier
League. They are led by the team of President John Nelson and
Chairman Brian Kenworthy and the club is looking to progress under their
guidance.
When the club was established, it spent a number of years
playing friendly cricket before taking the decision to enter the
league format of the game in 1988. The club has enjoyed plenty
of success since then, quickly progressing through the leagues
to become champions in 1994.
They then made the move to the Cherwell League, winning
the first division title in 1999 to gain promotion into the Western
Feeder League of the newly formed Home Counties Premier
League. Another promotion followed shortly after and the club
has continued to do well since then, winning the championship
in 2004, 2009, 2010, 2013, 2014 and 2017.
As well as being successful on the field the club has also
made progress behind the scenes, buying their own ground
and building a new pavilion. They pride themselves on being
38 Issue 48
a friendly club that welcomes new players and supporters and
is fully committed to playing an important role in their local
community.
2018 proved to be another season to remember for Henley
as they produced a fantastic league season, putting together a
record of eleven wins, four draws and two defeats from their
eighteen matches with the other game failing to reach a result.
This saw them finish top of the table with 313 points on the
board.
Although winning has been commonplace for Henley in
recent times this should not take away from what a fantastic
achievement winning the league is. As they have shown in
recent years, Henley will not be resting on their laurels and will
continue to work hard to develop further in 2019.
