Sedgefield Sedgefield CRICKET CLUB Sedgefield CC is based on the edge of the village near to the National Hunt racecourse and their first team competed in the North Yorkshire and South Durham Cricket League Division 2 during the 2018 campaign. They are led by the team of President Bob Edmundson and Chairman Duncan Moss and the club has been progressing well under their guidance. Cricket at their ground has been played for more than 100 years and Sedgefield CC has put together a history of which they have every right to be proud. It is an ECB ‘Focus Club’ and has successfully been awarded ECB Clubmark Accreditation. The current group of players will be keen to add to their illustrious history over the coming years. This season their first team enjoyed a fantastic campaign as they compiled a record of thirteen wins, three draws and four defeats from their twenty- two matches with the other two failing to reach a result. This saw them finish in second place in the table, just three points behind the league leaders. This should provide them with the perfect platform from which to build as they look ahead to the 2019 season. As long as they are able to retain their current group of players and can perhaps make one or two quality additions they should be well set up for another successful campaign. Sedgefield CC is not a club to focus solely upon their senior section and this is reflected by the fact that they also have a number of youth sides in place. These teams look to provide young players from the local community with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club looking to be successful over a sustained period of time to be able to produce their own talent and this is an area they appear to have covered. It will certainly be exciting to see how their youngsters are able to progress over the coming years. There is much to admire about the fine set up that Sedgefield CC currently has in place and this is being reflected in the results that they are achieving on the field. If they continue in the same manner they should be able to look forward to a bright and successful future for many years to come. Cricket Club Magazine wishes them the best of luck.
