CRICKET CLUB
E
xmouth Cricket Club was formed in 1843 and its Maer Ground occupies one of the
most idyllic settings in the South West of England, overlooking Lyme Bay on the edge
of the world famous Jurassic Coast. This provides an ideal location for cricket, with
a large square and outfield, an iconic Pavilion and facilities for locals and visitors alike. The
Ground can accommodate 18 wickets as well as allowing for a 65 metre boundary while still
having the capacity for spectators. We host over 60 matches a season.
This year sees us celebrating our 175th Year, culminating in
our Club Presentation Evening for both Colts and Seniors on
22nd September, followed by a Social event with a Pig Roast
and Entertainment for all members.
The ground has seen many top quality matches over the
years, particularly at the time of the NatWest competitions
between Devon CCC and the professional counties. It still hosts
occasional Minor County games as well as some of the Devon
Cricket Board’s junior and senior competitions.
Exmouth has been part of the Devon Cricket League since
its inauguration in 1972. The Club currently runs five senior
sides including a Ladies XI as well as four Colts teams. The 1st
XI play in the Devon Premier League where it has achieved
a considerable amount of success over the years including
winning the Devon Premier League seven times in the 1990’s
and most recently in 2013. That season we completed a double
by also winning the Devon Senior Cup! Back to back Devon
T20 victories in 2014 and 2015 were yet another notable
achievement.

In 2015 the T20 Team reached the National Finals held at
SWALEC in Cardiff, a tremendous achievement for a Provincial
club. This year we have also won the Devon T20 trophy again,
returning it to our trophy cabinet! This last victory saw us host
the ECB Vitality National T20 Area finals. Whilst ultimately we
were unsuccessful in our match, all of our visitors and of course
our own supporters were treated to a superb day of Cricket!
The 2nd X1 also is having a very good season and is
currently in the 2nd position of the Devon D Division East
League. The 3rd X1 play in the Devon H Division East, is also
having a good year troubled only in the ability to find enough
players, sadly only too common amongst our competitors too.
We also field a Sunday League team. Our Ladies X1 play in the
Devon Womens League Division 2.
Former player Mark Woodman and current player and
Club Colts Coach George Greenway have both represented
England Deaf XI.
